Where Untouched Snow Meets Breathtaking Fjords and Endless Adventure
Stranda is a place where time seems to slow down, and the usual rush of life is replaced by the quiet rhythm of nature. Nestled between the dramatic peaks of the Sunnmøre Alps and the fjords below, it offers a rare kind of luxury—one not defined by crowded slopes or long lines, but by wide open spaces and pristine powder. "It’s a hidden gem," says Åshild Vollen, booking manager at Mivo, who’s seen countless guests fall in love with Stranda. "They come expecting adventure, but leave with a deep sense of peace. It’s the quiet and the space that make all the difference.»
Here, the mountains don’t just provide a backdrop—they demand attention. The sheer drop from towering peaks to fjords below is something you can't fully grasp until you're standing there, skis in hand, ready to carve through untouched snow. For Åshild, it’s moments like these that define Stranda. "I remember one guest who was an experienced skier, used to the hustle of the bigger resorts. After a few days here, he told me, ‘I’ve never felt so alive, and so still, at the same time.’ That’s the magic of Stranda—adventure without the chaos.»

Stranda offers something few places do: a chance to ski and explore without the feeling of being just another tourist. Whether you're navigating the wide open off-piste terrain or discovering the beauty of ski touring, there’s a sense of solitude here that’s hard to find elsewhere. "What I hear most from our guests is that they can truly escape here," Åshild shares. "It’s not just about the slopes—it’s about feeling like you're experiencing something that’s yours and yours alone.»
The beauty of Stranda lies not just in the adventure, but in how the landscape unfolds—towering peaks contrasting with deep, quiet fjords. "One of the best things," says Åshild, "is when people stop to take in the view. They take their time here, and that’s the real luxury—the space to just be.»
Great view from the ski resort’s top station at the gondola
It’s not just the advanced adventurers who find themselves enchanted by Stranda. Ski touring, which takes you deeper into the wild, untouched corners of the Alps, is open to anyone with a sense of curiosity and a desire for something different. "I’ve had guests in their 60s, with no touring experience, who said it was the highlight of their trip," Åshild adds. "It’s an experience they can’t find in a crowded resort, and that’s why they return."
Every guest leaves with more than memories of a ski trip—they leave with the feeling of having discovered something rare and untouched. "It’s hard to put into words," Åshild reflects, "but when I see guests at the top, taking in that view, I know they’ve found something special."
